Eric Clapton’s Ferrari To Sell At Auction In England

On October 17th, a sports car that once belonged to legendary musician Eric Clapton will go up for sale through H&H Classics at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, England. Experts believe that the right-hand drive 2004 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti F1 will bring in between $72,000 and $99,000.

When the vehicle was constructed in 2014, it took seven weeks to fully equip the Ferrari with red brake calipers, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, leather headlining, a passenger airbag off system, Scuderia enamel wing shields, and a silver dedication plate. Although the sports car is over 14 years old and has had three different owners, including Clapton, it has just 29,700 miles on the odometer.

Damian Jones, a car expert and Head of Sales at H&H Classics had this to say about Clapton’s former ride: “This is a car with all the fiery temperament and driving pleasure of a thoroughbred Ferrari, combining thrilling performance, agility and safety. But it also goes a step further, offering rear passengers two comfortable, roomy seats. The 612 Scaglietti was designed to combine the roominess of a grand tourer with the blistering performance of a sports Berlinetta. In terms of aerodynamics, this meant ensuring maximum performance despite the larger dimensions overall.”

Although Clapton has been inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame, the iconic musician has claimed that, if showbiz didn’t work out, he would’ve been happy to work as a bricklayer. “…For a little while, I worked for my grandfather. And he was very strict and very noble,” explained Clapton. “He never took a raise. He worked for the same amount of money all his life. And he was a master craftsman. And that was very important for me to observe. That I could take that ethic anywhere. He worked me very hard. So, I always thought, Well, if music doesn’t work … ‘Cause I had the time of my life on that building site.”

We’ll let you be the judge whether or not Clapton’s former sports car reflects his blue-collar mentality.
