Many of the classic models have become collector must-haves over the years, but it’s unlikely you’re going to spend as much as you would on some other vehicles. After all, it’s still just a Ford Escort at the end of the day. However, what about spending a small fortune on an Escort that you can’t even drive?
Jeweler Russell Lord
One man from Essex, in the UK, decided that he loved the Ford Escort so much, he was going to make one of the most expensive versions in the world. Russell Lord is a jeweler who has been in the industry for 45 years, and is part of the Lord family who have over 100 years experience as jewelers. He established his company, Lord of London, back in 2012, where he makes bespoke jewelry for clients from around the world. While most of his work has been on rings and necklaces, he decided to mix his passion for his industry and cars with this new project.
MK2 Escort
Russell Lord spent around 1,300 hours completing his masterpiece – an MK2 Escort, based on the works rally car driven by Ari Vatanen in the 1970s. With a silver body and gold rims, hinges and grille, this is one beautiful little car. As well as the exotic metals, Lord has included diamond headlights, sapphire indicators, and ruby brake lights. The materials alone for this Ford Escort cost a whopping £78,000 (over $100,000!). That’s the same price as a Mercedes-AMG C63 S, to put it into perspective.
Up For Sale
This miniature Ford Escort is 1/25th the size of a real one, meaning that someone is going to be paying a lot of money for a car they can’t drive. However, it’s all for a good cause. Proceeds from the sale of the car will be split amongst several children’s charities. It went to auction on May 14, but unfortunately the reserve was not met this time around. Let’s hope it gets more interest from buyers soon!
