The concept of having cars with legs isn’t something that’s entirely new to the world of engineering – think Star Wars here. However, this re-imagining of the concept has finally produced a version of the four-legged automobile that could legitimately make the concept viable for everyday use in the near future – and the results look amazing!
The concept car was designed by a subsidiary group of Hyundai known as Elevate. Their aim is to change, adapt, and innovate new modes of transport for our future that will help to change the way we drive and ultimately how we move.
When the original design was conceived, the company planned for the car to be used in disaster areas initially. The reason for this is because of the vehicle’s unique ability to walk on ‘all-fours’ and drive at the same time. This means that the car has far more reach than a regular vehicle would as it can handle tricky terrain and obstacles that might prevent the mobility of other traditional vehicles.
For instance, the Elevate can easily handle walking over a 5-foot wall or a 5-foot gap at the slow but steady speed of 3 mph. This means that you can imagine things like rescue vehicles and ambulances being customized from the Elevate range of vehicles.
Many are now calling the Elevate the worlds first ultimate mobility vehicle due to the flexible nature of this car’s driving/walking capabilities. However, the company also envisions the car as being ideal for urban settings as well and have gone as far as creating designs that showcase the probable invention of a taxi-friendly version of their vehicle.
While the concept car might feel a little strange in an urban setting for some, others will be sure to welcome the invention as they’re able to make life a lot easier for people who are disabled and struggle to handle stairs and other obstacles that might be present in the area that they live.
