Almost everyone has at least one story of not getting along with their neighbors. However, it’s one thing to not get along with your neighbors but it’s another thing completely to have ones as horrible as these examples. These neighbors went above and beyond to make everyone else’s day in the neighborhood all the harder.
Pet Wars
When it comes to wars between neighbors, wayward pets can get in the way without even knowing. After all, who wants someone else’s dog waste on their lawn?
This person decided to call their neighbor out when they saw their dog relieving themselves on their steps. The only problem was the criticism backfired when they responded that they were only returning the favor for the havoc their neighbor’s dogs wreaked on their landscaping.
Nice Parking Job
If you live in a neighborhood where people don’t always park in driveways, you know how bad people’s parking jobs can be. This one might just be the worst.
When this person popped outside one day, they realized that their neighbor decided that they were just too good to part in the street. To keep their car safe, it stayed on the sidewalk. Unfortunately, this isn’t a private sidewalk and now the other neighbors are blocked off.
That’s a Break-In!
There are a few situations in which you might tell your neighbor where your spare key is. Maybe you’ll be out of town and you need someone to feed your pets or you’re close friends.
Instead of receiving the location of the spare key, this neighbor found it on their own. With this new power, they decided to break in and use some groceries their neighbor bought. We can’t imagine how this person doesn’t see this as breaking into someone else’s apartment.
No Pets Here
Places like Facebook’s Marketplace are really useful! You can buy from your neighbors second-hand, saving you money and reducing waste.
Yet, it’s up to you to make sure that what you’re buying is reliable. There are times that your neighbor might lie to sell something. In this case, it was relatively easy to see that this person was lying about their “no pets” qualification. Although we have to say, that cat is a cute culprit.
No Speaking Inside!
As we just looked at, living with a shared wall can prove to serve as a uniquely complicated living experience. It makes sense that your neighbors wouldn’t want you to party hard or blast music.
On the other hand, your neighbors can’t force you to be completely silent at all times either. This particular neighbor had a bit of a hefty request. They weren’t upset about loud music or television but instead called for a ban on normal phone calls.
Lightly Used
As we covered, people might lie when they’re selling items to their neighbors. At the very least, they’ll probably try to put the item in the best light possible.
This particular person might have stressed things further than the believable. Saying that this grill is “lightly used” is more than a stretch. It looks like this grill already met a terrible fate! At least they were upfront that it needs some work, even if it isn’t just “a little bit of work.”
Shared Walls
For those who have lived with shared walls, you can know how awkward fighting couples often are. This person decided that all they could do was sit back and laugh.
The bad news is that this was just as audible to their neighbors as the couples’ fighting was to them. This led to what most of us would find a very awkward conversation to have. They saw it as a chance to double-down, though, and even shared that they’d prepared a snack for the show.
For Sale on Nextdoor
We’ve already covered that what you see on Nextdoor or Facebook might not serve as the most honest advertisement. It’s best to think critically when you read a description before decided to make a purchase.
For example, did this neighbor actually capture a ghost in the mason jar? We have to say that we doubt the authenticity of this particular paranormal oddity. On the other hand, it makes sense to not want to simply toss a ghost you caught out with your soured leftovers.
Over the Property Line
There are some neighbors who don’t worry too much about where the property line is. In other cases, you might find your neighbors take the property lines very seriously.
This person wasn’t ready to see the property line as anything less than gospel anytime soon. After a kid left their wagon just over the property line, this neighbor wouldn’t give an inch – much less three. This seems indicative of some fairly awful neighborly relations.
The Neighbor’s Hobbies
Ideally, you probably don’t know a whole lot about your neighbor’s hobbies unless you’re friends. Otherwise, it seems like something that wouldn’t affect you.
The sad news is that this isn’t always the case but it takes a particularly bad neighbor to pull this off. We would hope that they at least paid to replace this window. Moving forward, it’s probably best to aim away from the neighbor’s hose when it comes to archery practice.
Turn it Down!
There are some things that would wear on your nerves quickly. Guns n’ Roses’ “Sweet Child of Mine” would only take a few back-to-back plays to garner a response.
After about three days, this person couldn’t take it anymore. They jumped on Nextdoor, desperate to see if anyone could somehow contact the neighbor to get them to turn the music off. Unlike them, we would have to say that even the entire album would get tiring after three days.
Rent-a-Corgi
Neighbors borrow things from one another a lot, in some cases. A cliche example of this is when neighbors stop by for a cup of sugar or to ask to borrow a tool.
This neighbor took to Nextdoor with a rather unique request. To fully enjoy the Royal Wedding, they wanted to borrow someone’s corgi for about two hours. They promise that if you let them borrow your corgi, the little doggie would be spoiled and admired for the duration of their stay.
Playing with High Stakes
Blocking your neighbor into their driveway can greatly impact their day. After all, we’ve all felt how being tardy can start your entire day off on the wrong foot.
This person thought that they could solve things amicably by letting their neighbor know they were blocking them in. Instead of a prompt response, though, they were basically told to wait until they were done. In response, they jumped to a more extreme reaction: tow the whole car in the way.
Not a Great Opener
There are certain things that someone says that you know won’t lead to anything good. Sometimes it only takes a headline or a notification to realize that you’re about to see something upsetting.
A notification such as “If I yelled at your kid(s), it’s because they deserved it,” you know that Nextdoor conversations are about to get heated. Not to mention, it’s a bit of a defensive post. It makes us wonder what the real cause of this argument was.
Whose Cat is This?
If your cat slips out at night, you might turn to your neighbors for help. After all, who is more likely to see a local missing cat than the people who live nearby?
The downside to this is that there are few people who would use the chance to prove themselves as awful neighbors. When this person received a text about their car, they may not have expected to see someone else trying to claim the cat as their own.
Seems Safe Enough
The positive news is that this neighbor wasn’t physically blocking this person’s driveway with their car. In contrast, they weren’t completely out of the way either.
This is because this person is using the bed of their truck to store a ladder that’s a bit big. Even worse, it’s easy to see that they could pull up to keep the ladder out of the neighbor’s way but chose not to. All in all, this seems like a pretty dangerous choice.
My Condolences
Arguments with neighbors are often unpleasant and you want them over as soon as possible. So, many of us don’t even try to be clever in how we deal with our neighbors.
Not to mention, it seems like the relations between these neighbors were beyond saving. It also seems like this is only the climax of an argument that’s happened time and time again. Either way, you have to admire the wit behind sending someone condolences for a car that you have towed.
Keeping the Neighborhood Beautiful
The overall beauty of a neighborhood is often set by the work of individual homeowners and renters. Some neighborhoods even enforce an HOA or similar situation to make neighbors comply.
While no one really wants to hear complaints about their home from their neighbors, there are certain cases where things get carried away. For instance, it’s one thing to have a few stray toys in your yard that your neighbors don’t like. It’s another thing altogether to cover your curb in litter.
Why Steal a Trashcan?
If something you own is suddenly missing, you might have some questions as to where it went. However, it can pay off to take a second and step back to reconsider before accusing your neighbors.
For example, it would have paid off to look around for this trash can a bit or even consider the rain in their calculations. Threatening to call the police on your neighbor for stealing your trash can might not be the best choice for the problem at hand.
Do You Want Expired Food?
When it comes to the things people might give away or sell on Nextdoor, there are some options you wouldn’t expect. What about some salad dressing that’s already seen better days?
We have to wonder how recently this Nextdoor post was made. After all, these expired in 2016, so how far past 2016 are we at this point? Not to mention, why even make the post? Who actually wants two partially-used bottles of expired salad dressing?
For Months?!
Seeing this parking job probably already gives you a headache to see. After all, how is everyone going to get around this RV while this person is parked there.
If you want to be even angrier, this RV didn’t just stay in this position overnight. They noted that the neighbor in question parked their RV like this not for days but for months at once! This would make for a nearly unbearable situation that seems frustrating to the RV owner, not just these poor, inconvenienced neighbors.
That’s a Lot to Ask
There are certain things that you only ask of people you trust. Sometimes, it’s just better not to ask strangers for certain favors that wouldn’t fit the relationship.
This person provided a great example of this on Nextdoor. Most people don’t want to tie their credit up with a virtual stranger or a neighbor who is, at best, an acquaintance. This includes asking the people who just happen to live around you if they’d mind signing on your auto loan.
Who Has the Answers?
If you want to tell a neighbor that their cat is on your property, it’s probably best to verify that it’s their cat. At the very least, you should make sure that it’s a cat at all.
This neighbor failed to complete even this most basic check before they sent this text. Not only is this not this person’s cat, but it’s also not even a cat at all! Even though their neighbor insisted it was a raccoon, they still tried to push responsibility off on them!
No Beating Around the Bush
There are certain loud noises that just happen. If you live next to a kid learning to play the clarinet, you might hear some unsavory notes for a while.
Unfortunately, this person just couldn’t take it anymore. More than just telling them that their son’s clarinet playing was loud, this person needed them to know how awful it was. So awful, in fact, that the next session should be as short as possible.
Banding Together
There are times that your neighbor may ask you for help in times of crisis. In those cases, you have to decide what you’re willing to do to help someone out.
This neighbor just needed a fake partner for the day. With family coming into town and an unsavory match-making experience on the horizon, this person needed someone to act as their boyfriend, just for a day. They promised to do it but not before getting a few jabs of their own in.
Neighborhood Mascots
It seems as though almost everything we do has consequences, whether they’re immediately perceived or not. For this person, the consequences of their actions started to show pretty quickly.
We have to admire their love for the neighborhood ducks but feeding them created an interesting side effect. While it kept the ducks happy, it also kept them around. We have to wonder if this technique comes with enough bird poop for every house around them too.
How Should They Know?
There are some things that you can’t possible know. After all, no one is omnipotent. As such, it’s only expected that sometimes you just don’t have the answers.
Annoyed by a car alarm, this neighbor asked this person to stop it. What they failed to accept is that, as this person wasn’t home, their car wasn’t even there to cause the disruption. How could they possibly know who was, though, given that they weren’t there?
Feeling Lazy
It makes sense to borrow from a neighbor from time to time. For instance, if it’s a trek to the nearest store and you’re in the middle of making a meal.
On the contrary, just because you’re feeling “lazy” isn’t usually a good enough excuse to raid someone else’s pantry. In fact, this person went beyond just borrowing pasta but continued to borrow every other ingredient for the dish, all in the name of resting. We have to say, this neighbor doesn’t seem sold.
Well, So Do They
At first glance, this might not seem too bad. If you don’t live there, why would you take up the parking in the spot of someone who lives there, day after day?
That’s a question that these neighbors missed out on when they left this note. While this note seemed a little needlessly aggressive, at first, it’s even worse to learn that this driver parks there because that’s where they live. That might have been good to know in the first place.
Relying on Each Other
As we’ve said, there are some reasonable requests of your neighbors. If your wifi is down, for example, there are some people who are willing to help.
Sadly, borrowing your neighbor’s wifi only works if they have wifi. The catch here was that this person had been using their neighbors wifi for the last year. Honestly, this isn’t something that most people would want to admit upfront and we have to wonder where the conversation went from there.
Bad idea All Around
There are some things you just shouldn’t do. Right now, there’s a reason that people – other than this awful neighbor – are campaigning to save the bees.
In all, they’re important to have around! You might want to keep them if you want your garden to thrive and to prevent the bee population from further decline. This horrible neighbor is happy to exterminate them simply for pollinating their garden. We’re sure that this will help the garden thrive.
Not Here to Help
To be fair, there’s no rule that you have to help your neighbors when you’re given the chance to. Still, it won’t lead anyone to refer to you as a neighborly presence.
It wouldn’t have taken much longer for this neighbor to just scoop the snow off of the other half of the stairs. They aren’t even a different set of stairs – just the other half of what they were already working on! In the end, they decided to leave that to their neighbor.
Unwanted Opinions
It’s unfortunate to hear a couple fighting through the wall. Do you say something and risk butting into a personal matter or do you just grin and bear it until they’re done?
The answer for this person was to reach out. When they did, they didn’t receive much of a positive response, so they went for something a little more cut-throat. Specifically, they gave them an unnecessarily long explanation on why they should break up as to not waste their time.
The Walls are Paper Thin
With all of these stories about nightmare experiences with shared walls, it’s enough to make anyone covering their ears in sympathy. This one might just leave you covering your nose as well.
These walls were so paper thin that even the sound of their neighbor passing gas made their way through the wall. We’re not quite sure why they contacted their neighbor to let them know but their response was about as off the wall as possible.
Horrible All Around
There’s nothing quite as scary to a pet owner as something happening to their pet. Not to mention, even if they’re okay, vet bills can add up quickly.
The worst part about this neighbor is that their dog was the one who attacked this family’s dog. Naturally, they demanded that they pay the bills to help their dog get better after the attack. They agreed but delivered the money in pennies to make this time all the harder.
Good Morning, Weekend!
Everything about this situation is upsetting, honestly. We can understand that hearing someone doing yardwork bright and early on one of your only days off would be tiring, though.
They asked the neighbor if they could change anything about the arrangement. They were even willing to agree to a slightly later time and asked if he could work during the week since all of the neighbors get up early anyway during this time. Sadly, they refused to oblige and made things even weirder.
Absolutely No Cooking
There are times in which you should absolutely be thoughtful of the allergies of others. For instance, don’t eat a PB&J next to your coworker who’s severely allergic to peanuts.
In this case, though, things are pushed to an extreme. This person claimed that any cooking of any sort triggered their undiagnosed allergies. To resolve this, they simply ask that their neighbors never cook. They even included “not cooking” as an alternative when cooking is absolutely necessary!
Is This an Emergency?
There are times that you might want to warn your neighbors of urgent news. It can be a great way to band together in times of crisis which are hopefully few and far between.
However, that system loses its value if someone uses it for a non-emergency under the wrong label. For instance, the avocados at Whole Foods rarely require an urgent alert to everyone in the neighborhood. Although with 16 replies, it seems like people were ready to share their opinions.
Maybe Let This One Lie
We’ve all done something to avoid conversation from time to time. Maybe you’ve faked a phone call when an ex-friend passed by or ducked down an aisle to avoid running into your boss at the grocery store.
Unfortunately, we don’t always pull off these dodges as cleanly as we thought that we did. This person definitely got caught trying to avoid conversations with their neighbors that people reached out about. It might have been better to let this person have a moment of peace.
Law Enforcement Rivarily
While law enforcement agencies are expected to work together, sometimes that’s not really the case, especially when they are neighboring each other. The guys from the fire department decided that laying a ‘mouse’ trap for their colleagues in the police department might be a good idea.
Well, that’s what you get when you place their stations one next to each other. So much for cooperation between neighboring agencies, but at least they were promised free doughnuts. We like ours with chocolate icing.
Late Night Thinker
We’ve heard some creepy stories about weird neighbors but this one sets a new record. There must be some logical explanation behind this picture, otherwise, why would this guy just sit there, in the middle of the night, staring at a bunch of watermelons?
Perhaps he is having some sort of a crisis? Contemplating life’s mysteries or perhaps plotting something horrible? We certainly wouldn’t want to be this guy’s neighbor. Also, let the watermelons go, they did no harm to anyone!
Hi Bob
Deciding on who is going to paint a shared fence may not be such a big deal unless you’re Bob’s neighbor. Whoever that person is, they just wanted to let Bob know that they did what they were asked to do, well, maybe not entirely.
We bet Bob is certainly not going to like that paintwork. Maybe fences don’t make good neighbors after all? At least they were nice and painted a smiley face on it, to soften the sarcasm, you know.
Wrong Washing Machine
It is unreasonable to think of one good reason as to why you would possibly want to stop the washing machine while it’s already on washing your clothes, unless, of course, they are someone else’s. In this case, however, they were indeed someone else’s and what’s worse is that this was done on purpose!
So we are not surprised to learn that they had to find their clothes hanging frozen outside. That should teach ’em a lesson! We don’t condone this extreme but otherwise necessary method.
Snow Wars
This guy’s neighbor has been storing snowballs in his fridge since last winter so he can throw them at his neighbors during the hot summer days. We just hope that his neighbors have done the same and will not find themselves without anything to defend themselves with unless they take him by surprise with water guns.
This, of course, is a recipe for a disaster. Who knows how things will escalate between these two warring parties? They better brace themselves because it seems like winter is coming.
Cow Herd
Neighbors can be weird but also extremely embarrassing as it happens. Jonathan’s neighbors have probably heard that the guy is celebrating his 18th birthday and thought of an original way of showing their excitement. We don’t know what’s their (or Jonathan’s) thing with cows but we certainly appreciate the silly wordplay (did you get it, too?).
Also, we wonder if they plan on getting Jonathan a yearly supply of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream for his birthday next year. If anyone asks, we prefer cookie dough.
You’ve Been Warned
This person in Canada got really upset with their neighbor’s kid for leaving his toys in the snow in their driveway, so they took it upon themselves to make sure to put an end to it. We seriously hope that these are not the poor kid’s legs that are protruding out of the snowman or else this would be very creepy.
Also, we wonder what on earth was this kid doing playing with broomsticks? These are not lightsabers! You can poke someone’s eye with this thing, kid!
Dragging Your Feet
Living in an apartment building may be a bit of a challenge sometimes, especially when you have rowdy neighbors living upstairs who like dragging furniture at 4 a.m. However, it seems like that in this case someone tried really hard to annoy their neighbors downstairs by dragging something else – their feet.
We just wish to let that person know that prehistoric times called and they want their stone shoes back, asap. No, seriously, how hard is it to lift your feet while walking instead of shuffling them?
Aggressive Wi-Fi
We all know that you just can’t live without Wi-Fi these days. But what happens when it becomes a battleground between neighbors? These two clearly found a way to express what they really think about each other in a very unique way.
Hopefully, they wouldn’t end up disconnecting each other from the internet, or else this might turn ugly real quick. We also wonder what’s worse: having a neighbor who is bad at music or having a neighbor who has poor grammar?
Unleash the Toddler
Some people can be really obsessive about their lawns. Some might take it to a whole new level by putting up warning signs such as this one. A passive-aggressive attitude usually does the trick but this one is definitely pushing the envelope, perhaps a little too much even.
We just wonder why they choose their grandson to do dirty work for them. What’s even worse, what do the poor toddler’s parents have to say about it?
How Did This Get Here?
There are plenty of electronics that you might carry around to plug in somewhere else. For instance, you might plug a phone charger in and forget it somewhere.
It is more unlikely that you’ll plug an appliance like a microwave in and forget it. This person was perplexed when they walked outside one day to see a microwave that wasn’t theirs plugged in on their porch. We wonder if this post worked and someone eventually confessed that it was their microwave.
Maybe a Different Movie
Once more before we go, there’s one more horrible neighbor who suffered thanks to a shared wall. It all came down to some disagreements on what movies these neighbors liked.
At some point, this person just couldn’t take hearing the soundtrack to Moana anymore. Yet, this neighbor wasn’t ready to take the hint that they were sick of hearing the movie. They offered a range of other popular movies to play again and again, though.
What a Productive Conversation
There are certain things that you shouldn’t do. Pretty high up on this list is that you probably shouldn’t insult a child, especially when it sounds like this kid is pretty young.
In this case, we would be pretty upset about a child sneezing on us without so much as an apology. Still, it’s a pretty weird and upsetting move to make a comment making fun of her looks. All around, we’d probably avoid further conversations with this neighbor, they seem horrible.
Think of the Cats
During the winter holidays, it’s no rare sight to see Christmas lights decorating the houses. Not everyone loves the tradition or so it seems.
Technically, this person didn’t have any problem with Christmas lights in general. She just wanted them turned off by 7:30 in the evening. While the early time is eye-catching, the real showstopping part of this post is that they claim it’s to allow their cats to get some much-needed rest.
Not Quite a Compromise
There are definitely some downsides to living with a neighbor on the other side of your wall. Shared walls often mean the best choice is working together to find what works.
That’s a message these neighbors missed out on. When their neighbor was blasting a track of guided meditation in their apartment, this person just couldn’t take it anymore. However, the response their neighbor had was far from a compromise that helped them both.
